Welcome to the Carol Stream Fire District Website
The Carol Stream Fire District has been proudly protecting residents and businesses within its boundaries since 1947. Currently covering approximately 9 square miles, including most of the Village of Carol Stream and some unincorporated areas, the District serves approximately 41,000 people. With 3 stations located strategically within its boundaries, the District provides timely response to calls requiring fire suppression, emergency medical and technical rescue services, as well as hazardous material incidents.
Emergency response personnel includes 60 personnel, including battalion chiefs, lieutenants, and firefighter/paramedics. Firefighters/paramedics are divided into 3 shifts (black, red and gold). Each shift rotates, working for 24 hours and off for 48 hours. Three Battalion Chiefs (BC), each assigned to a different shift, oversee daily operations. The Fire Chief and Deputy Chief work a traditional 40-hour work week and are responsible for business operations of the District, as well responding to emergencies as needed 24/7.
Located at Station 28, the business office is staffed by 1 full-time administrative manager, 1 full-time administrative assistant and 1 part-time administrative assistant. They are responsible for the administrative/business aspects of the District such as payroll, payables, and employee benefits. In addition, they are generally the first point of contact for the community for non-emergency inquiries.
The District's Fire Prevention Bureau staffed by two full-time fire inspectors strives to prevent loss of life and property. Its fire inspectors enforce Village fire code through routine inspections of all commercial and multi-tenant buildings. The Bureau also provides public education through events such as the annual open house held during October's Fire Prevention Month, CPR training for businesses, station tours and senior luncheons. These are organized by the Public Education Coordinator, a lieutenant who works for the Bureau on days when he is not on duty.
Carol Stream Fire District received an ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating of 1. ISO collects information on a community's public fire protection and analyzes the data using its Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). It then assigns a Public Protection Classification from 1 to 10, with 1 being the best. These ratings can be used to determine insurance rates for local businesses.
